The HUB on 30A is a great night hotspot on the Eastern End of 30A. It is a great family place and it offers many activities year round. There are multiple food trucks and restaurants throughout the HUB. There is always music playing and it is a very family friendly place. They will play all of the major sporting events on their big screen and they offer live music on most nights.

Be ready to empty your wallet when you come because it can get very pricey. They offer adult beverages to the adults and they ID everyone. It is a wonderful place on 30A that everyone should visit when they vacation here. We love the HUB and we will see you there!

Bastide – a Little Bit of Europe on 30A

Share Button

We took some time today to drive to the west end of 30A in search of a shop I read about and just had to see, Bastide. I saw photos of the shop and read about the shop im Vie Magazine and my interest was piqued immediately.

Bastide was a little challenging to find because it’s tucked off 30A, across from Butler Middle School. But, upon arrival, I was so glad I made the effort to find it! As you approach the shop you first notice what appears to be a lovely garden through the wrought iron gate. There, for sale, is a variety of plantings of all sizes to add to your garden or interior decor. Today they were decorated for the upcoming Holiday Season.

As you enter the door to the shop you are immediately transported to a European village and feel that you should have a cup of tea. Or you should rest a bit before heading out to the nearest art museum. The rooms to the shop have a lovely romantic feel and are beautifully merchandised. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down, take your time and really look at everything.

Bastide specializes in garden design for inside a home as well as outside. The store offers a variety of antiques, home accessories, pottery, linens, fragrances and soothing bath products. These are things you will want for yourself  and are things that would be a much appreciated gift for someone special.

Please visit Bastide the next time you feel the need to do something nice for yourself. You’ll be glad you did!

To get to the shop, travel west on 30A. Continue through Grayton Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, and Gulf Place. Bastide is across the street from the middle school.

Bud, a part of Seaside history

30A's Beach

I’ve been reading about Bud, a Dachshund, who was one of Seaside’s town founders. It seems that Robert and Daryl Davis, who belonged to Bud, took some of the credit for the creation of Seaside as well. Bud would go to work with Robert every day, accepting rides in Robert’s bike basket. Bud headed up meetings and inspected the building sites as Seaside was built. Offered his opinions. Kept things tidy by cleaning up food scraps that may have ben left by carpenters. Yes, Bud worked hard back in the day. Every one knew Bud and I’m sure every one loved Bud. He made daily visits to Modica Market and to the town’s restaurants as well. Probably a quality control measure on his part.

Bud was immortalized when the owners of Bud and Alley’s chose him as part of the restaurant’s name and decided on his image as their icon.

Bud enjoyed the sun and long naps at Perspicasity, a clothing and accessories market. He received a lot of attention, compliments and pats while there. Made lots of friends.

Bud lived an unbelievable 21 years. He is a part of Seaside history. If you stop by Seaside Kids you can see Bud’s silhouette depicted by dots. His image can be seen on T shirts and hats. Adult sizes Bud items can be found at Seaside Classic store across the street.

I wonder if Bud ever ran for mayor?

Grayton Beach State Park on 30A

Amazing Grayton Beach

I am very appreciative of  all the National and State Parks  that are maintained for each of us who cares to explore them – and I hope you do explore them. I am especially appreciative of this country’s parks systems because I know that the  funding has been severely decreased  to these agencies and the cost of operating our National and State Parks may become prohibitive in the future.

We are fortunate to have such a park right in our own back yard – Grayton Beach State Park! The nearly 2,000 acre park provides us with pristine beaches for swimming, sunning, and sunset watching. The Park boasts a 4 mile off road trail for hiking or biking which trails through natural communities. Take your binoculars for wild life viewing and bird watching. There is a boat ramp available on Western Lake. Bring your kayak or canoe and explore the backwaters of Western Lake, a 10 acre lake surrounded by the natural areas of the park.

Enjoy fishing for saltwater species in the Gulf of Mexico’s surf , or try to catch a few fresh and saltwater fish in Western Lake’s brackish water. Then, enjoy lunch at a large picnic pavillion which overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. Public showers are provided for all visitors.

Overnight facilities are also availabe for visitors. Grayton Beach State Park offers 30 modern cabins for reasonable rent and you may choose to stay for 2 nights or rent your cabin by the week. To ensure that you are really “getting away from it all,” the cabins do not offer television phones or internet services. The cabins are equipped with central heating, a gas fireplace, central cooling, a kitchen with basic cooking and dining utensils, screened in porch and an outdoor grill. Linens, pillows, blankets and towels are also provided for guests.

Camping facilities are provided at the park for tent or RV camping. Pets are welcome in the campground! And, of course campers are provided with electricity, restroom and hot showers.

Adjoining the campground is an ampitheater. Rangers lead interpretive programs on the lake peninsula during summer months.

I do hope you make good use of Grayton Beach State Park. As a state operated park, you really do own a piece of it . Make it a big part of your back yard, too.
